“It was just a regular summer day in Pune. I was travelling from college to the office at which I was interning. I had just got a new phone, a black Moto G, and I ensured that it was safely tucked away in my bag.
Well, at least that’s what I thought. When it was time to switch buses, and I wanted to call my father back in Varanasi, my phone was nowhere to be found.
That’s when panic struck. It was no surprise that my phone was switched off when I tried calling it from my friend’s phone because it had only 1% battery left when I last used it. I had lost all hope.
I called my father, explained the situation to him, and we both agreed not to tell my mother yet, hoping to recover my brand new phone before she found out.
As fate would have it, the next morning, when she tried calling me, a girl answered, and told my mother about how she had found my phone on the bus. This kind girl — a stranger — had gone home, charged my phone, and awaited a call from someone just so she could return it to me. Since it was password-protected, she couldn’t make any calls herself.
Not only did I get back my phone, but I also gained a fond memory that restored my faith in public transport, and in the kindness of strangers.”
