“Bengaluru, popularly known as “Namma Bengaluru” is one of the busiest, fastest-growing cities. It was my dream to move to this place and settle down.

I was new to the city and still pretty unfamiliar with the roads and routes, so I thought it would be a good idea to board a BMTC bus. So, I went and stood at a nearby bus stop.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a man who was walking by in his tracks. He had a strange look; suddenly he looks at my purse and then looks at me like a hunter with a target.

The bus wasn’t in sight and there weren’t many people around, so I started quickly walking away, without a clue of where to go. I didn’t know where the nearest shop was, nor did I know anyone there.

As I began to panic, the man was getting closer and closer, I saw a huge bus station. I was mesmerized by its infrastructure because in our village we hardly even have a bus stand. Without thinking, I darted toward the station and went near a TC, desperately trying to show him the fear in my eyes while making small gestures toward the man.

No words were needed. The TC understood my plight and took me to the right bus and helped me reach my work destination. The conductor there was too polite as he gently spoke about how and where I should board the buses. Peering out from the safety the bus gave me, I saw the man walk away.

It was one of my strangest travel experiences, but it was also a beautiful reminder of the kindness of strangers and the fact that we are all human beings sharing the same planet, no matter what our nationality or race is.”
