Arun Kumar Soni’s Commute Kahani #2

“This story is about a bus journey to Badrinath. The roads were uneven and narrow along the mountainside. If you looked out the window on the cliffside, it looked like the bus was floating mid-air. And if a vehicle were to come from the other side, it would have been nearly impossible to cross.

As I was saying my prayers to make it through this scary situation, suddenly the bus driver hit the brakes and passengers collided with the seats in front of them. They hurled abuses and scolded the driver until he told them to look out the windshield. There seemed to have been a landslide, and bits of the mountain had fallen in into the abyss, followed by a big terrifying thud.

After attempting to move ahead on the path, the bus got jammed. Getting off the bus was almost like a scene from a movie. Every person who got off with great difficulty and fear tipped the balance of the bus. We got off one by one through the driver’s window.

That’s when we saw what had happened — one wheel of the bus was floating mid-air. The bus was on the verge of overturning and falling off the cliff. Thankfully everyone was able to get off the bus safe and sound.

Soon, social workers along with local new channels turned up. We were interviewed, and in our anger, we blamed the driver and reported him. He was taken in by the police and locked up. The authorities sent another bus for us, and we went ahead on our journey.

After we calmed down, we felt bad about the driver and went and got the driver released.

It was an adventure none of us will ever forget.”

This #CommuteKahani was the second of four that were sent in by Aashi Soni’s father, Arun Kumar Soni. Stay tuned to read the rest! Do you also have a commute story to tell?
